BANT in Action at The Kings Fund Annual Conference
BANT representative Clare Grundel yesterday attended The King’s Fund Annual Conference in London. Industry leaders incl. Sir James Mackey, Chief Executive of NHS England and Henry Dimbleby met to discuss and debate the NHS Ten Year Health Plan and the challenges currently facing the health care system.
BANT launched its 5 point #manifesto in 2024 advocating for greater provision of nutrition services within Primary Care and Community settings. We have since submitted to Labour’s Ten Year Plan for the NHS, laying out the need for a nutrition-focused and prevention-led approach to tackling the worsening health crisis across the UK – https://bant.org.uk/bant-manifesto/
The stark reality is that nutrition needs to be at the core of this plan, yet we are stuck debating where nutrition fits into the picture and the role of (or lack of) nutritionists in the NHS.
As a healthcare system we need to wake up to the fact that poor diet is killing us. The role ultra-processed foods play in chronic disease progression, quality of life, and overall life expectancy is evident in the science. We can no longer afford to negate the critical role of nutrition, both as prevention and in future-proofing the NHS.
BANT represents over 3000 Registered Nutrition Practitioners in a PSA-accredited register with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) ready to deliver nutrition services where they matter most.
We need the government @The Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP, and policy makers to address the elephant in the room and pave the way for free access to nutrition services within Primary Care of the NHS.
