Presenter Profile:

Dr Christine Houghton, an accomplished food-first Nutritional Biochemist with over 30 years’ clinical experience has dedicated the past two decades to researching the relatively new science of Nutrigenomics.

From her in-depth research, Dr Houghton was able to identify a series of modifiable interactive drivers of disease.  “I’ve always known that inflammation plays a major role – but instinctively I felt that this wasn’t the full picture.”

This simple question led her well beyond her background in Biochemistry and into other less familiar sciences, notably  Microbiology, Cell Biology and Immunology. 

What she discovered was that Nature has cleverly interwoven these separate scientific disciplines to provide a framework on which cellular health is built.  She discovered that inflammation is just one of 5 key modifiable disease drivers and that practical application of the science of Nutrigenomics provides the ‘toolbox’ needed to beneficially impact these drivers.

Integrating and simplifying these complex but nuanced processes into a practical clinical approach became the project that culminated in Christine’s development of Gut Ecology & Metabolic Modulation (G.E.M.M.)
