Alex Manos
Implementing Life’s Essential 8 in Clinical Practice

Session Outline: In part one, Alex talks through the lifestyle interventions with the strongest evidence for positive, or negative, impact on cardiovascular health and risk. He includes exercise and the converse, inactivity. The impact of sustainable weight loss. How to understand stress, psychological health and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). He challenges the idea that alcohol can exert a positive effect. He covers the importance of circadian biology, including chronobiology and sleep.
In part two, Alex focuses specifically on the systemic relationship between oral health and cardiovascular health and disease, hypertension, stroke and atherosclerosis. He explores key pathways, including endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, TMAO and Nitric Oxide and proceed to practical interventions in support of a healthy oral microbiome.
Speaker Profile: Alex Manos is a Institute For Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner with a MSc in Personalised Nutrition.
He is co-founder of Healthpath Pro, and Mould Mastery, creator of The Resiliency Program and CWO at Exhale Coffee.
He is also a Breathwork facilitator, psychedelic practitioner, and IFS-informed coach.
Alex is also a seasoned and popular educator of fellow practitioners, and this will be his third presenting role within a BANT Event, following Cardiovascualr Health and Gut Health events.
Dr Rolandos Pavlou
Drivers & Mechanisms of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events

Session Outline: Cardiovascular is a complex inflammatory and metabolic process driven by endothelial injury, oxidative stress, insulin resistance, hypertension, smoking, poor diet, sedentary behaviour, and other lifestyle-related factors.
In this session, Dr Rolandos Pavlou will explore the mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis and how plaque progression, instability, and thrombosis translate into major adverse cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke.
Understanding these mechanisms helps explain the dramatic rise in cardiovascular disease observed since the early 20th century and provides a framework for identifying the key modifiable drivers of risk.
Drawing on both current evidence and clinical experience, Dr Pavlou, a certified Nutrition Network Medical Practitioner, will discuss practical approaches to cardiovascular risk assessment and monitoring, together with lifestyle interventions that may help prevent progression and improve cardiometabolic health.
Speaker Profile: Dr. Rolandos Pavlou is a medical doctor and certified Metabolic Health Practitioner, trained at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a clinical focus on the root causes of chronic disease through nutrition, lifestyle, and behavioral interventions.
He integrates evidence-based approaches including low-carbohydrate and ketogenic nutrition, physical activity, and stress management to address conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
As an active member of both the Nutrition Network and the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners, he is committed to advancing open scientific dialogue and challenging conventional paradigms in modern healthcare.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Pavlou is an author and international speaker on metabolic health, ketogenic nutrition, and the misconceptions surrounding cholesterol.
His multidisciplinary background includes experience in herbal medicine, organic cultivation, and public health education, reflecting a holistic approach to patient care. He consults patients internationally through remote consultations, making his clinical expertise accessible beyond geographical boundaries. He has delivered numerous lectures and seminars aimed at both healthcare professionals and the public, emphasizing patient empowerment and the therapeutic potential of nutrition in chronic disease management.
Dr Sanjay Gupta
Bridging the Gap – A Cardiologist’s Journey to Integrative Heart Care

Session Outline: Sanjay’s presentation explores the intersection between mainstream cardiology and nutrition/lifestyle medicine, and why collaboration between the two has never been more important.
For too long, conventional medicine and nutritional medicine have often worked in parallel rather than together, with each discipline developing valuable insights that are not always shared or fully understood by the other.
As a consultant cardiologist, he will bring a practical cardiology perspective to a predominantly nutrition-focused audience, discussing what we know about heart disease, what we still do not know, and where nutrition and lifestyle interventions fit alongside conventional cardiovascular care.
Equally, this is an opportunity to acknowledge the limitations of modern medical practice when it comes to preventing chronic disease and maintaining long-term heart health.
Speaker Profile: Dr Sanjay is a a Consultant Cardiologist, with specialist interest in Cardiac Imaging, at York Teaching Hospital in York, UK.
He is currently working as a full time cardiologist, which includes two busy cardiology outpatient clinics per week, coronary care ward rounds and ward based in-patient responsibilities.
Having spent almost 28 years in Medicine, Sanjay has come to the following conclusions:
Healthcare rarely ever provides healthcare. Instead it provides disease management by using expensive and potentially harmful pills to mask symptoms
People come to see doctors to be engaged, educated and empowered rather than being given a set of pills before being shown the door.
Dr Sanjay wants to do things differently. He believes. High quality reliable jargon-free information about health should be available at no cost to everyone in the world. Unfortunately many people rely on google to answer their questions and are often left confused and anxious because of the unreliability and variability of the quality of information
Natalie Louise Burrows
The Heart-Body Connection: A Functional Nutrition Perspective on Cardiovascular Health

Session Outline This session takes an integrative approach to cardiovascular health, examining the interconnected systems that influence heart disease risk beyond conventional risk factors.
Beginning with the gut–heart axis, we will explore how microbiome metabolites, including TMAO and short-chain fatty acids, directly shape cardiovascular risk and drive systemic inflammation.
We will also examine the evidence for a causal relationship between oral health and cardiovascular outcomes, a connection that remains underappreciated in clinical practice.
Before we wrap up with nutrition and lifestyle approaches for clinical practice, we will consider how genetics and the environment interact through epigenetics, methylation, and key SNPs to determine individual risk.
Speaker Profile: Natalie Burrows is a Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Clinic Director of Integral Wellness, an evidence-based personalised nutrition clinic specialising in cardiometabolic health.
Motivated by both professional expertise and a personal predisposition to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, Natalie brings deep empathy to her work.
Having experienced poor metabolic health during her corporate career, she understands how nutrition, sleep, stress, and lifestyle shape long-term risk.
Natalie supports clients using cardiometabolic medications, including GLP-1 therapies, while also helping many reduce medication reliance and, where appropriate, place metabolic diagnoses into remission through sustainable, whole-person strategies.
