How to Join BANT

Do you have, or are studying towards, an NTEC-accredited degree?

  • If you are a student, apply for Student membership and upgrade to Full membership with CNHC registration when you qualify.
  • If you are a graduate, apply for Full (Practising or Non-Practising) membership with CNHC registration.
  • If it is more than 2 years since you qualified and/or since you last practised, see the Return to Practice process.

Are you currently a CNM student or did you graduate from CNM?

If so, when did you study there and on which course?:

  • If you have a CNM Diploma from ROI or an Online Diploma and started your studies before September 2020, you can apply for Full membership and register with CNHC as an NT.
  • If you have a CNM NT Degree, you can apply for Full membership and register with CNHC as a Naturopath.

Have you practised as a Nutritional Therapist for more than 3 years?

If you have a qualification in Nutritional Therapy and have been in clinical practice as an NT for more than 3 years:

  • You can apply to become a Full member of BANT by completing the Portfolio Route followed by an APEL process.

Are you a Nutrition Science graduate without a Clinical Practice Diploma?

If you have a Nutrition Science degree, but no nutritional therapy clinical practice diploma:

Are you are enrolled on, or graduated from, one of the ION, CNELM, BCNH, NCA or CNM Diploma courses that started after September 2020?

If so, you have two options by which to become a Full member of BANT:

      • Top up to a BSc (Hons) or higher level degree in Nutritional Therapy at one of the recognised Training Providers
      • OR – after 3 years in clinical practice – apply via the Portfolio Route followed by an APEL process. Click here for more details

Online applications are only applicable for the following membership applications: Student Membership, Student to Full Membership Upgrade (Practising or Non-Practising), Full Membership Applications (Practising, Non-Practising, Non-Practising RTP).

Before you start to complete your online application, please check that you meet the membership criteria. See below for the requirements for each membership category:

Student Members   |   Full Members

CNHC registration is compulsory for Full Practising Members of BANT. See the CNHC Route Guide – if your course is designated FT [Fast Track], you may proceed to apply online. If your course is designated EFP [External Full Portfolio] you will need to apply manually via the Provisional Membership route.

Any other type of BANT membership application will need to be made manually – these include applications for Associate Membership and Provisional Membership. Students

  • Name of Training Provider
  • Name of Course
  • PDF of Proof of Start Date of Course (not enrolment date)
  • Estimated Graduation Date
  • PDF of Evidence of Training (in the form of either a letter from your training provider or a copy of your student membership card – PDF version only)
  • Access the Graduate Checklist Booklet for helpful guidelines to set up your practice.

Full Membership

  • PDF of your Nutritional Therapy qualification
  • PDF of Proof of Start Date of Course (not enrolment date)
  • PDF of your current professional indemnity insurance policy for your nutritional therapy practice
  • PDF of your reference for your Fast Track Registration with the CNHC. Click here for the reference form.

Upgrade to Full Membership from Student Membership

  • PDF of Proof of Start Date of Course (not enrolment date)
