{"id":6029,"date":"2016-11-07T10:00:05","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T10:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bantuat.org\/?p=6029"},"modified":"2016-11-18T16:17:25","modified_gmt":"2016-11-18T16:17:25","slug":"student-news-bulletin-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bant.org.uk\/student-news-bulletin-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Student News Bulletin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this bulletin we look at the research on the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, we give you information on the up-coming webinar that we&#8217;re really looking forward to and the super quick, brain boost, guilt-free snack recipe to power you through this hectic end of term time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Effect of DHA supplementation in a very low-calorie ketogenic diet in the treatment of obesity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This trial, published in <em>Endocrine<\/em>, compared the effects of a very low calorie ketogenic (VLCK) diet to VLCK diet supplemented with docosahexenoic acid (DHA) over a six month period.\u00a0 Both groups lost around the same amount of weight and saw a positive impact on some cholesterol and inflammation markers. However, the group supplemented with DHA had further improvements in anti-inflammatory markers.\u00a0 The authors stated, \u201c[this] demonstrated that a very low-calorie ketogenic diet supplemented with DHA was significantly superior in the anti-inflammatory effect\u201d.
