Experts at the Agency\u00a0have ranked cured and processed meats amongst the top 5 most\u00a0carcinogenic substances to humans as alcohol, asbestos, arsenic and\u00a0cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of Communications for BANT \u2013 Daniel O\u2019Shaughnessy said:\u00a0&#8220;The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy\u00a0(BANT) position on cured and processed meats is clear: They should be\u00a0consumed only occasionally, and as part of a diet that includes a minimum of\u00a05 portions of brightly-coloured vegetables (and ideally more) and 2 portions of\u00a0fruit, daily.\u00a0This advice has previously been published as part of BANT&#8217;s Wellbeing\u00a0Guidelines in September 2015.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>BANT\u2019s Wellbeing Guidelines provide the most up-to-date nutrition and\u00a0lifestyle recommendations based on the latest scientific evidence, which sadly\u00a0has been ignored by the \u201cEatWell Plate\u201d.
