{"id":16310,"date":"2021-05-07T17:48:43","date_gmt":"2021-05-07T16:48:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bant.org.uk\/?p=16310"},"modified":"2021-09-13T08:39:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-13T07:39:12","slug":"nutrition-evidence-alert-april-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bant.org.uk\/nutrition-evidence-alert-april-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Nutrition Evidence Alert \u2013 April 2021 &#8211; Diversity &#038; Inclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Diversity &#8211;\u00a0Influences of Ethnic and Social Backgrounds<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As lockdown eases and some normality returns, there does appear to be an increasing awareness of the importance of food choices for our health and well-being.\u00a0 However, we know that diet, lifestyle and health are heavily influenced by factors such as background, culture and socio-economic status.\u00a0 We also know that Nutritional Therapy is often not accessible to those who need us most.<\/p>\n<p>This month, to coincide with the launch of BANT\u2019s diversity project panel, our focus is on the topic of diversity. In our profession we see the term \u2018diversity\u2019 used in various contexts, however, for the purpose of this Nutrition Evidence Alert,\u00a0we are looking at inclusivity of people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>BANT is committed to increasing diversity within the nutritional therapy sector \u2013 encouraging and supporting practitioners from a range of backgrounds and making nutritional therapy services available and applicable to the widest possible audience.<\/p>\n<p>This will require a range of initiatives; from finding ways to make our services more accessible from a financial standpoint, to ensuring practitioners are equipped to support the unique needs of different groups, and collaborating with training providers to increase awareness and accessibility of nutritional therapy as a profession.<\/p>\n<p>In this issue of the Nutrition Evidence Alert the editorial team has selected\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bant.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-mdtktyk-xihtrthjt-j\/\" data-emb-iscopy=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">31\u00a0papers<\/a> to provide examples of just some of the areas we need to consider when working with different groups and the impact on outcomes these can have.\u00a0 Those that have been indexed by the team are listed below.<\/p>\n<h2>Recommended Blog and Podcast this month<\/h2>\n<p>Race Equality Foundation:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bant.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-mdtktyk-xihtrthjt-i\/\" data-emb-iscopy=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Covid-19 and How it Affects Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic People and\u00a0Communities<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Naked Nutrition:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bant.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-mdtktyk-xihtrthjt-d\/\" data-emb-iscopy=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gut Health and Sex<\/a>\u00a0with Miguel Toribio-Mateas, May 2020<\/p>\n<h2>From our Guest Editor: Clare Evans<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i4.createsend1.com\/ei\/t\/78\/B5A\/DD2\/033141\/csfinal\/image001-9900000000028a3c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"279\" \/>Clare Evans is a management consultant who has led and contributed to multiple Diversity &amp; Inclusion programmes both in the UK and Middle East.
