All are equally valid. The important thing is that you can demonstrate how the activity or your self-study is beneficial to the maintenance and development of your professional work as a Nutritional Therapist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Active<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Active CPD is any activity where information is fully explained and illustrated by an expert in the topic under discussion. These events can be live or pre-recorded and include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In-person events such as conferences, seminars and exhibitions<\/li>\n<li>Events held or accessed on-line, such as webinars, video recordings and podcasts<\/li>\n<li>In-person or on-line discussions with colleagues, where you are developing your skills<\/li>\n<li>Teaching within the nutritional therapy area if you are developing skills by discussion with colleagues or are involved in a teacher training programme.<\/li>\n<li>eLearning, such as the modules offered through BANT\u2019s Learning Zone<\/li>\n<li>Supervision sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Self \u2013 directed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Self-directed activities should be clearly focused and evaluated in terms of your professional development. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reading and research of referenced material on scientific databases, such as Nutrition Evidence.<\/li>\n<li>Reading referenced articles in industry magazines<\/li>\n<li>Sourcing and preparing new lecture material as part of your Nutritional Therapy teaching responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Clinical research as part of a formal course of long-term study (for example an MSc programme). When logging learning within a longer course of study, you should identify specific areas of your study that count towards your CPD and list them separately, including the number of hours spent on each area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Promoting the Profession<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is valid to claim CPD as \u2018promoting the profession\u2019 in the following circumstances:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attending meetings or activities associated with BANT business, such as council meetings, BANT AGM, Regional and Local Network meetings<\/li>\n<li>Attending meetings or events in relation to nutrition regulatory issues<\/li>\n<li>Promoting Nutritional Therapy to other healthcare professionals e.g. presentations to GPs.<\/li>\n<li>Representing BANT at exhibitions and on stands at conference events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Special Considerations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you carry out CPD activities to meet the requirements of another healthcare profession, such as herbal medicine, this may count towards your nutritional therapy CPD requirement, but you must demonstrate that these activities are beneficial to the maintenance and development of your professional work as a Nutritional Therapist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The following areas are not valid for BANT CPD:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The development of communication and educational skills arising from repeatedly delivering lectures, tutoring and mentoring.<\/li>\n<li>Activities undertaken for personal development, such as, personal exercise\/fitness classes, yoga classes or language courses<\/li>\n<li>Discussions with colleagues at social\/recreational occasions, for example general discussions with nutritional therapy colleagues at a professional association social event<\/li>\n<li>The time you spend selecting, planning and recording your CPD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_separator type=&#8221;transparent&#8221; thickness=&#8221;30&#8243;][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; anchor=&#8221;how-to-select-quality-cpd&#8221; el_class=&#8221;anchordiv&#8221; el_id=&#8221;how-to-select-quality-cpd&#8221;][vc_column_inner el_class=&#8221;anchor_col&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1618397536613{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-right: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;padding-left: 30px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>How to Select Quality CPD<a id=\"\" class=\"hanbooktotop\" href=\"#top-section\"><span class=\"hanbooktotopspan\">\u00a0Top<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>CPD can be either BANT-recognised or self-selected. Both sources of CPD are equally valid, however, with BANT-recognised CPD, you can be assured that it has been assessed by the CPD Committee and deemed of an appropriate quality.<\/p>\n<p>When self-selecting CPD, keep the following questions in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Does the training activity enhance or refresh the knowledge you already have and contribute to your clinical practice?<\/li>\n<li>Is the level of information over and above what you studied when completing your original nutritional therapy training?<\/li>\n<li>Does the training activity fit with your identified knowledge gaps and training plan for the year?<\/li>\n<li>Does the activity provide opportunities for further learning, with the provision of up-to-date scientific reference material?<\/li>\n<li>Does the activity fit within your scope of practice as a Nutritional Therapist and within appropriate legislation?<\/li>\n<li>Does the activity meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnhc.org.uk\/uploads\/asset\/file\/19\/CPD-policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNHC\u2019s CPD guidelines<\/a>?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_separator type=&#8221;transparent&#8221; thickness=&#8221;30&#8243;][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; anchor=&#8221;reflective-practice-and-its-importance-in-cpd-logs&#8221; el_class=&#8221;anchordiv&#8221; el_id=&#8221;reflective-practice-and-its-importance-in-cpd-logs&#8221;][vc_column_inner el_class=&#8221;anchor_col&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1618397536613{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-right: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;padding-left: 30px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>Reflective Practice and its Importance in CPD Logs<a id=\"\" class=\"hanbooktotop\" href=\"#top-section\"><span class=\"hanbooktotopspan\">\u00a0Top<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Reflective practice is the term used to describe how you observe and record what you are learning and then put your learning into practice. BANT and the CNHC considers reflective practice to be an essential element of your CPD. It involves:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying your learning needs and how you will meet them<\/li>\n<li>Thinking about (or reflecting on) what you have learned<\/li>\n<li>Looking at how you will feed this learning back into your work<\/li>\n<li>Reviewing what you have written and identifying any new learning points.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When completing your CPD log after an activity, take some time to apply the above principles and reflect that in your writing. You are encouraged to log CPD shortly after each event, to ensure accurate and useful reflections. A complete CPD log is a requirement for annual renewals in January.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The 30 hours (or more) can be any combination of BANT-recognised and your self-selected activities, and made up of active, self-directed and promoting the profession.<\/li>\n<li>CPD must be logged during the year in which you access the learning. For example, if you watch the BANT December 2021 webinar the following April 2022, you can log this in your 2022 CPD log, even though the event itself has a date of 2021. The key is when <em>you<\/em> accessed the learning.<\/li>\n<li>Your 30 hours of CPD should reflect a range of different activities and events. It is a CNHC requirement that no more than 1\/3 of the required hours (10 in the case of BANT if you were to log the minimum 30 hours) come from one event. For example, if you were to attend an event awarded 20 hours of CPD, you would need to log <em>an additional<\/em> 20 hours from at least 2 different events to meet this CNHC standard.<\/li>\n<li>If you upgrade your membership to full status in July or later of any given year, you are expected to log a minimum of 15 hours of CPD before renewals in January of the following year. It is acceptable to log CPD that took place before your upgrade, as long as it took place within the calendar year in question.<\/li>\n<li>The CNHC are responsible for assessing the quality of BANT member CPD logs. On an annual basis, they select a percentage of BANT member logs for assessment, liaising directly with the chosen members.<\/li>\n<li>For all BANT-recognised CPD, you are able to download a CPD certificate directly from your log. Other providers will also often provide CPD certificates on request.
