Why BANT sets Guidelines for Student Members:<\/i> Top<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

BANT sets guidelines for its student members for their protection but also for the protection of the public, the training providers, qualified practitioners and the reputation of the profession and BANT. Nutrition advice which is provided by a student who hasn\u2019t yet completed their nutritional therapy qualification and training could potentially be dangerous and\/or bring the profession into disrepute.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_separator type=”transparent” thickness=”30″][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=”” anchor=”activities-as-a-student-member” el_class=”anchordiv”][vc_column_inner el_class=”anchor_col” css=”.vc_custom_1618397548620{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-right: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;padding-left: 30px !important;}”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Activities as a Student Member:<\/i> Top<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

BANT student members are able to conduct the more practical elements of nutrition such as cooking workshops and sharing recipes; however, they cannot provide nutrition advice to the general public or individuals either by discussion or via social media. Student members cannot give presentations to the general public regarding any general healthy eating advice.<\/p>\n

BANT student members can only offer personalised advice as part of a nutritional therapy consultation, under the supervision of a qualified nutritional therapy practitioner as part of their training. The supervisor must be employed by the training provider.<\/p>\n

If student members have an exisiting nutrition qualification, for example a BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Sciences, but have not yet completed their practice diploma\/degree which qualifies them to work in clinical practice, they are qualified to provide general nutrition advice to the public, for example through articles or social media. However, as they still have BANT student status, they cannot carry out work as a BANT member or with reference to BANT membership. For example, if someone has a BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition, they may be able to work as an \u2018AfN Registered Nutritionist\u2019 but not a \u2018BANT Registered Nutritionist\u00ae\u2019.<\/p>\n

It is the individual student\u2019s responsibility to ensure that their training provider is aware of any previous qualifications that allow them to offer nutrition advice and to provide evidence of their training and insurance.
