I first got interested in nutrition in my early twenties when I was suffering big time every month with pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). After my GP prescribed me the contraceptive pill which only made things worse I decided to do my own research. Making changes to my diet made a huge difference and it was then that I realised the importance of nutrition and its effect on the body.
In 2009 I started my new career in exercise, nutrition and behavioural coaching. Why these three things? Well we can exercise as much as we like, but if we don't eat healthily the majority of the time, we won't have the health or the results we're after. Then there is the lifestyle aspect; the majority of us know what we should be doing but coaching helps clients get that mind =-body connection and the motivation needed.
I helped many people with weight loss, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, but felt there was more to learn. So after completing 3 long years and over 200 clinic hours, in 2018 I completed my studies in Naturopathic Nutrition with the College of Naturopathic Medicine and qualified as a Nutritional Therapist - learning to find the root cause of disease, illness and supporting the body back into homeostasis.
My clients are now mainly female and many come to me for help with their hormones from PCOS to hypothyroidism and weight loss.
I get huge satisfaction being part of a client's health and wellbeing journey; inspiring, educating and coaching them to achieve their goals. As one of my clients said 'Penny really cares'- and I do.
